The book is a photographical writing. It traces the five- hundred-year period of Sino-Western cultural exchange that begins in the end of the Ming dynasty to the early Qing dynasty, collects more than one thousand illustrations systematically catalogued eight features in line with the chronological order and historical events, and finally represent a full script to the Chinese and Hesperian cultural interchanges from Ming and Qing dynasty to the present.
