On May 16, Academic Publishing Exhibition on Nanjing University's 120th Anniversary was opened in Du Xia Library of Nanjing University on Xianlin Campus. Hu Jinbo, Secretary of the Party Committee of the university, and Xue Hailin, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, attended the ceremony and unveiled the exhibition. Wang Mingsheng and Chen Yongsong, leaders of the university, representatives from the Social Science Department, the library, the museum, the press and teachers and students from other relevant departments and faculties attended the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony was hosted by Jin Xinrong, the president of Nanjing University Press.
Xue Hailin said in his speech that Nanjing University is one of the earliest universities that engaged in academic publishing in China. Over the past 38 years since its establishment, Nanjing University Press has been establishing the academic style of Nanjing University. The press will continue to improve its business and academic level.
Zhou Xiaohong, a senior professor of humanities and social sciences at Nanjing University, spoke on behalf of the authors. He explained the significance of university presses from six aspects. He mentioned that university presses have preserved the spirit of human civilization. Nanjing University Press donated 30 million RMB to support the launch of the "Nanjing University Liberal Arts Development Fund" on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of Nanjing University. It is believed that the investment of 30 million yuan will be like 30 million seeds sown on the land of knowledge and nurture more outstanding talents.
NJUP president Jin Xinrong said that in the future, NJUP will further promote the construction of the Shanghai Branch and Suzhou Branch of NJUP to bridge the talent cultivation of Nanjing University; publish a number of high-quality works reflecting China's system, culture, education, science and technology.
Before the ceremony, Hu Jinbo and other leaders and guests visited the exhibition together. The exhibition is a comprehensive overview of the important achievements of Nanjing University Press in academic publishing, textbook publishing and children's publishing since its establishment 38 years ago. It is a precious gift of NJU scholars and publishers for the 120th anniversary.
With a long-term and broad view, NJUP will make due contributions to the construction of an academic discourse system with Chinese characteristics, enhancing the power of Chinese culture in the international communication.
